London, William Heinemann Ltd., 1937 1st edition.. Hardback, 9 x 6.5 inches. Bound in black cloth with gilt title lettering to spine and gilt design to front. Publishers embossed logo to rear corner. Pictorial endpapers “Cuckoo’s-Eye View of Monk’s Norton.” In very good condition. In clear protective jacket. Some minor handling marks else cover clean and smart. Some mild foxing to endpapers, blank prelims and outer edge of page block. Neat inscription to half-title page “Nick, with love and best wishes, Xmas 1937, Mol.” Else a very good clean and tight copy. 180pp. With 30 B&W illustrations, including full-page and smaller vignette wood-engravings by Joan Hassall. A simple look at the makeup of village life told through one man’s view of an imaginary village.
