Ernest Flammarion, 1900. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A very good copy with slight rubbing and browning to covers (leather over boards; chiefly to edges and corners); previous bookseller's printed paper label on rear attached endpaper; slight internal uniform browning (chiefly to edges). [12], 348, [2] pages (including wrappers). Text in French. Later issue ('81me mille' on title page recto; 'Quatre-vingt-cinquieme mille' at foot of upper wrapper) of the 3-part 'last adventures' of the serio-comic southeastern French hero; notable for the illustrations (by Bieler, Montegut, Montenard, Myrbach and Rossi; chiefly in margins and as head- and tailpieces). Date is conjectural (not dated in book); originally published in 1890 (see BMC, volume 6, page 1026, column 1100). Original wrappers bound in at front and rear. Bound in half brown morocco over light brown marbled boards, gilt-stamped and decorated spine, covers double gilt-ruled, dark red/blue cockerell endpapers, t.e.g., remaining edges untrimmed. Nice, tight fine-bound copy.Over 100 b/w & brown/white Illustrations (including Title page).
