Sydney: Collins, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. Sydney, Collins, 1975. Large octavo, 1463, [3] (first blank, last two glossary) pages. Quarter leather and cloth; top edge gilt, spine lettered in gilt; original attached ribbon bookmark; a very fine copy with the original clear plastic dustwrapper in the pictorial slipcase. Number 86 of the deluxe version of the first edition, limited to only 150 copies signed by the author (on an adhesive label attached to the verso of the half-title, as issued; the adhesive is now discoloured, as ever).

Synopsis

Poor Fellow My Country is a Miles Franklin Award winning novel by Australian author Xavier Herbert. It is the longest Australian book ever written. Primarily, it is the story of Jeremy Delacy and his illegitimate grandson Prindy in the years leading up to World War II. It covers matter on Aboriginal affairs, Australian patriotism and nationalism; subjects also dealt with in Herbert's novel Capricornia.
