First Edition. 20 watercolor plates by Alberto Pisa, 4 black and white photos, and 2 Sketch Plans, one of which is a fold-out. 8vo, original blue cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and pale blue on the spine, lettered and pictorially decorated in yellow on the upper cover. xii, 179; fold-out plan, 8 ads. A very handsome, sound and fine copy, the cloth and gilt bright, the textblock and plates clean. A very pleasing copy FIRST EDITION. The book describes in detail the history, evolution, and daily life of Pompeii. The color plates accompanying the text are quite beautiful. The entire city is discussed including the layout of the streets, the architecture, the art, the public buildings including the Forum, the theatres, and the temples. Each of these subjects is treated both from an archeological and sociological viewpoint, emphasizing how life must have been lived within the town and its buildings.
