A very handsome, sound and fine copy, the cloth and gilt bright, the textblock and plates clean. A very pleasing copy FIRST EDITION. The book describes in detail the history, evolution, and daily life of Pompeii. The color plates accompanying the text are quite beautiful. The entire city is discussed including the layout of the streets, the architecture, the art, the public buildings including the Forum, the theatres, and the temples. Each of these subjects is treated both from an archeological and sociological viewpoint, emphasizing how life must have been lived within the town and its buildings.
The reader appreciates the growth and development of the city and how it related to Roman history as well. A WELL WRITTEN HISTORY WITH HANDSOME ILLUSTRATIONS.
