About This Item
New Orleans: The New Orleans Medical and Surgical Journal, 1877. First edition. Very good plus.. Offprint of this article on the harmful effects of potassium cyanide on a variety of plants and animals, by "one of the [Civil] War's foremost medical researchers" (Breeden, 376). Potassium cyanide had a number of applications when this article was published in 1877: it was used in photographic processes, gilding, and even in medicine. It is still used today by entomologists to collect specimens. Here, Joseph Jones rather harrowingly describes the results of potassium cyanide poisoning on various plants and animals, as well as people. 9.5'' x 6''. Original self-wrappers, side-stitched. 22 pages, numbered 773-794. Stamp of the Medical Library Association of Brooklyn to front wrapper. Light edgewear and toning. mild soil; small area of early adhesive to spine. Each leaf with very shallow crease to the center. Sound.
