Hardcover. thick sm4to, 24cm, lv,691,24p., publisher's ads., lithographed frontis portrait and engraved vignette half title, (both foxed), printed in double-columns in frame borders, index, in the original blind decorated green cloth, gilt spine titles, and gilt harp on the upper cover, some wear on the edges but sound, a good to very good copy (Ilc). ~ Thomas Moore (1779 1852) was an Irish writer, poet and lyricist celebrated for his Irish Melodies. Their setting of English-language verse to old Irish tunes marked the transition in popular Irish culture from Irish to English. Moore and Robert Service are considered among the best read aloud poets and are still popular in as pub fare in a few places.

Condition very good, corners slightly rubbed, spine is quite rubbed and title label missing, front marbled endpaper missing, front prelims foxed, rest of contents clean, complete, intact. Dark tan calf boards, 5 raised bands to the spine, stamped titles in second compartment and ornate gilt decoration in the other compartments. Marbled page edges, marbled pastedowns and endpapers. With frontispiece of Thomas Moore, as well as the printed title page a decorative title page with vignette of Sloperton Cottage,

In good condition, green buckram boards with gilt decoration to front and titles to spine and gilt to all edges of text block. Rubbed to top and bottom of spine, corners and along edges in places. Split to cloth to rear edge of spine (approx 1") not affecting the binding or soundness of boards. Prize inscription to blank end paper otherwise clean although page edges have faded and there are occasional blemishes to the text in places sometimes heavy. Bound by the Dublin firm Hodges, Foster & Co., with a large stamp to the rear of the front pastedown. Frontispiece is absent and replaced by a detailed pencil sketch of the author, signed JM (?) Lowry, January 1958. In a full morocco binding. Externally, rubbed with some scuffing and marks in places. Hinges are tender due to weight of boards. Internally, firmly bound.
