About This Item
This amazing volume is illustrated with lovely full-page engravings, along with all of Scott's introductions, notes and appendices. The leather binding is scuffed and bumped along edges, but still very lovely to look at and handle. Five raised ribs on the spine. Beautifully marbled endpapers. There is a great dedication on the FFEP to a student, Edward Noyes, who was presented this volume in recognition of the "First prize of the prize declamation" in the year 1856 by the preceptor and teachers of Farmington Academy that would one day become the University of Maine. Ephemera found in the book is the program for that year's Prize Declamation that includes the name of Noyes as one of the many readers at the ceremony! ( See photos. Astounding!)
The front hinge is cracked and very loose and should be handled with care. Rear hinge is fine. Pages show some browning with age and occasional foxing on endpapers.
All proceeds benefit The Friends of the San Anselmo Library. No expedited shipping outside of the United States.
