Attractive and ornate gilt design on front/back leather covers. Marbled front and back endpapers (pastedown and flyleaf). All edges gilt. Foxing throughout, text is clear and readable. Lightly scuffed. Panel edges and spine bands are rubbed. Numerous full-page plates with tissue guards. Second front flyleaf inscribed "Presented to James Lane by his freinds and Sister Jannie E Evans, Camp Alert Dec. 25th 1861". (Camp Alert was a Civil War training camp in San Francisco, CA)
