London: Henry Frowde,, 1894. An attractively bound copy of the first one-volume Robertson edition, issued in the same year as his miniature five-volume edition. James Logie Robertson (1846-1922) "is an important figure in the reinvigoration and renationalization of Scottish cultural life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As well as editions of the poems of Allan Ramsay, James Thomson, Burns, Scott, and Thomas Campbell, he published a selection from the work of the great fifteenth-century Scots poet William Dunbar" (ODNB). Octavo (185 x 121 mm). Contemporary red morocco by J. & E. Bumpus, spine lettered in gilt, raised bands ruled in gilt, compartments tooled in gilt, covers with two gilt frames and floral cornerpieces, board edges gilt, turn-ins tooled in gilt, white and black patterned endpapers, edges gilt, blue silk bookmarker. Couple of light marks on covers, a little rubbing and wear at extremities, contents crisp. A very good copy.
