New York. D. Appleton and Co. 1847. Regally bound in full scarlet straight grain morocco. Elaborate gilt tooled panel and fleural motifs to front and rear covers. Ornate double ruled gilt tooled motifs to spine compartments. Gilt titles. Extravagent gilt tooled fleural turn-ins. a.e.g. Thick 4to (6.5" x 9.5"). Illustrated throughout by full page tissue-guarded steel plate engravings. Some innocuous darkening and rubbing to covers. Very light marginal staining to bottom edge of pages throughout first quarter of volume. Some light scattered occasional foxing. Plates present a spot or two of moderate foxing, more so to several plates. A gorgeously bound, Very Good copy.
