Provenance William Foyle - W.A. Foyle / Beeleigh Abbey book plate in red morocco pasted inside front cover
Pencil notation on second f.f.l. reads "First Edition of the poems of Thomas Moore, published under name of Thos Little." A collection of juvenile poetry by Thomas Moore (1779 - 1852), published under the pseudonym of Thomas Little due to the eroticism of their content, as Moore's celebration of kisses and embraces was regarded as improper. A relatively successful publication, which was put to an end with the Victorian tight sense of propriety. Thomas Moore was an Irish poet, singer, songwriter and entertainer. He is best remembered for his lyrics of 'The Minstrel Boy' and 'The Last Rose of Summer'. Originally published in 1801.
