About This Item
Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1872. First Edition. Early printing. Octavo (20cm). Green cloth stamped in gilt; chocolate brown coated endpapers; [ii],418pp; wood-engraved frontispiece. Former owner's name to front flyleaf. Sound but rubbed, frayed at head, with scattered heavy foxing: Very Good.
With "Table" spelled correctly in the headline, p.9, but Currier and Tilton argue that this is not an infallible mark of the first impression: "[t]he misspelling TALLE for TABLE...is assumed to be the mark of early copies, but the word is correct" in early file copies at Harvard and the Boston Athenaeum (Currier & Tilton, p.145). CURRIER & TILTON p.144-45.
