About This Item

Saint John: Barnes and Company, 1860. Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Born in Scotland in 1823, Murdock migrated to Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1854, where he became manager of the Partridge Island gasworks. He contributed material to the Saint John Morning News from 1865, and a second book, 'Discursory Ruminations: A Fireside Drama', was published in 1876. Most online references list him as Murdoch with an "h" but this copy spells his surname with a "k", so, believing that his original publisher is much more likely to have correctly spelled his name than anonymous doofuses (doofi?) contributing to amateur online references, that's what the flunkies here at AFBooks are going with. Murdock died in Saint John in 1887 -- we have no idea when Murdoch with an "h" died. Blind-stamped brown cloth w/gilt spine lettering, 152 pages (four-item errata list follows Contents). Bumped/moderately worn corners/spine ends, tanned/lightly soiled edges, moderately soiled cloth, faded spine gilt, some internal soil, gift inscription to previous owner, shaken signatures, general wear..
