About This Item

Very rare. (334 pages.) The author's first book, a collection of poems, most of which had previously appeared in the Louisville Journal newspaper. Decorative hardcover, all edges gilt. Embossed cloth binding. Moderate edge-wear, with fraying at the head of the spine. Front hinge starting just a bit. Light foxing to the end papers and intermittently along the top edge of the text block. Otherwise, a tight copy with no markings. NOT an ex-library copy. Copy of Mary S. Ker of Natchez, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana. Rosa Vertner Griffith Johnson Jeffrey (1828-1894) was an American poet and novelist from Mississippi, and the first Southern woman whose literary work attracted attention throughout the United States.
