About This Item

Boston: Fields, Osgood, & Co, 1871. 1st Edition. Original cloth. Duodecimos. 152 pages. Near Fine. Both the first and second issues of the first edition of this collection of Harte's poems. Both volumes are bound in brown cloth over bevelled-edge boards with gilt-stamped spines and upper boards. First issue copy has minor edge bumps and light rubs, with gilt remaining bright. Second issue copy has minor edge wear, prior owner bookplate, and some darkening to gilt. Both books have sound hinges and endpapers.. First state of the first edition, with correct issue points on spine, title page, and page 136, together with a second state copy. The pair are housed together in a custom half morocco slipcase.
