A smart collection of the poetry of Felicia Hemans, a lovely compilation of her works, bound in straight grain morocco. Complete as six volumes bound in three.The collected poetry of Felicia Hemans.Hemans was a poet active during the Georgian era. Her first poems were published when she was only fourteen, in 1808, titles 'Poems by Felicia Dorothea Browne'. This collection caught the attention of Percy Bysshe Shelley, which whom she corresponded. She was a well respected model for other female poets of her day, such as Caroline Norton and Letitia Elizabeth Landon, her poems looking at the trials and struggles of women. Volume I in this collection includes 'Records of Woman', compiling Hemans' poems on female lives and suffering. One of her best known known works is the 1826 poem 'Casabianca', a true story of a boy who waits for his father, though he does not known his father is dead. In a half straight grain morocco binding. Externally, smart. Spines are a little faded. Some light marks to the boards. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper of Volume I, and to the recto of the front free endpaper of Volumes II and III. Volume I is lacking a front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
