About This Item

Philadelphia: Sorin and Ball, 1845. Hardcover. Prelims and endpapers foxed; board edges rubbed; institutional bookplate to front paste-down; owner signature to front free endpaper. Overall Very Good+ thus, age considered. A legitimately deaccessioned ex-library copy with very minimal markings;. Octavo in very dark green full leather(?) with elaborate gilded and stamped illustrated boards and spine; 2 p.l., [iii]-xviii, 19-347 p. front. (port., with tissue), plates. 19 cm. Added t.p. engraved. A lovely edition in a very handsome gilt pictorial binding comprising an outdoor scene in which a young girl, in an oratorical or recitative pose, stands atop a lute, which is, in turn, laid atop a large, open book. The girls is observed by four young women several of whom appear to be weeping. Quite lovely if sad! English women poets.
