(London): Gogmagog Press, 1972. Cox, Morris. Octavo. (96)pp., frenchfold. One of fifty copies signed by the printer-author. Illustrated with eight original intaglio engravings by Cox, printed in colors. "Each print has the device of a hand with pen or brush, entering from beyond the margins, drawing its composition (poem or picture) from nature." The whole is printed on Japanese mulberry paper, with titles and initials in red. The visual shape of the poems and the juxtaposition of words is part of Cox' s somewhat surrealist work. Cox plays with word associations and palindromes to create this "book of extremes." Some foxing and toning to edges of text block, else a near fine copy in black boards covered in Japanese net-mesh handmade paper. (Chambers 22).

Description:
COX, Morris. POEMS, 1970-1971. (London): 1972. Tall 8vo. Various Japanese papers over boards. (96) pages, including 8 color illustrations. One of 50 numbered and signed copies. In a preface to this edition, Morris Cox gives an excellent appraisal of the various stages his poetry has gone through. This collection is concerned wit the calm control of physical speed. "To slow down consciously one's reading thinking, almost to a standstill, may seem contrary to what a considerable number of people have been trained to expect, but in many of the poems in thi book one is invited to try. Suddenly the space surrounding the words could appear enormously important." The illustrations are of a hand drawing appropriate introductions to various groupings of poems. Fine. 38370.
