About This Item

San Francisco: Adrian Wilson, 1954. First Edition. Cloth-backed decorative boards, paper spine label, wrap-around printed band; large 8vo. 82 pp. Essential collection of Kees work, the last in his lifetime - he disappeared the next year; handsomely presented by San Francisco's Adrian Wilson who has signed this copy, dated April 7,1979 at the colophon. Wrap-around band with blurbs by Vincent McHugh, Malcolm Cowley, Allen Tate & William Poster. Lightly toned spine, else an essentially as new copy including the spine label and promotional band, and scarce as such; certainly scarce with the printer/publisher's signature. [In a removable mylar protective jacket.]. Kees was one of the most accomplished poets of his generation, and as well a serious painter, jazz and movie critic. It is presumed that he jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge at the age of 41. Wilson was an early recipient of a MacArthur Foundation (genius grant) award (1983); this is one of two books mentioned on the Foundations website that he printed.
