About This Item

London: George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED. Original dark navy cloth with gilt lettering spine. Light rubbing tips corners, clean covers, no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages. The original dust jacket has loss at the corners, faint soiling rear panel. The book measures 202mm tall x 144mm and has 352 pages, 38 b/w photos, 4 folding b/w maps, index. Most of the book is on the author's travels and hunting. Includes three chapters on his hunting and work in Tibet: diplomatic mission to Lhasa in 1936, hunting trip in Ladakh to Rudok and Chang Tang in 1928. A chapter on mountaineering and skiing in the Alps, a chapter on hunting in Baltistan to the Kero Lungma Glacier. Other parts of the book are on his military action in WWI and WWII. He was a prisoner of war in Italy in WWII where/when he wrote most of the book before escaping. Somewhat uncommon book especially in the fragile dust jacket printed on cheap wartime paper.
