About This Item
Glasgow: Francis Orr & Sons, c. 1844. Lithographed folding map, 35.5 x 50 cm, b/w, a couple of trivial spots, laid on linen and folding into green publishers cloth with printed paper label, rebacked. At the foot of the map are three vignettes, including Glasgow Bridge, with the harbour in the background. Worldcat gives the lithographer as J & D Nichol, but the Edinburgh draughtsman William Nichol seems vastly more likely. We can only locate one example, in the National Library of Scotland, dated to 1844. The paper label on the cover states that this a new edition, so our undated example may be a fraction later. On the lower pastedown is an 1848 dated ownership signature (Peter Rothwell?) so it is no later than that. OCLC: 316388755 Map
