Presentation copy; inscribed by the author, “ ‘A Place in thy memory, dearest, and a memory in thy prayers!’ ” S. Helen DeKroyft. March 30th 1868.” Contemporary owner (or recipient’s) signature below. Original cloth; spine ends worn; very good. The frontispiece (a bit foxed and darkened) is of the New York Institution for the Blind. Widowed and blinded early, the author actively lectured and inspired others for about a half-century.
