United Kingdom , 1806. Letter. Very good. The additional Forces Act of July 1803 created the Army of Reserve for the defense of England against the threat from Napoleon's French Revolutionary Army. A total of 15,780 men were added to the English armed forces by this compulsory measure, creating the "Army of Reserve". The act was passed by William Pitt the Younger despite strong political opposition. "If, after the Penalties under the Additional Force Act are assessed and paid.. " "They shall provide a Man between the Age of 18 and 45, and upwards of 5 feet 2 inches in height, to inlist for Five Years or during the War and Six months after.." " to serve within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and within the Islands of Guernsey, Jersey, and Alderney for the defence of the same, such recruit on being approved by the receiving officer will be paid by government a BOUNTY OF TWELVE GUINEAS.."Crown watermarked paper with nail hole.
