Memphis: Memphis Academy of Arts, 1971. 1st. Paperback. Limited edition #24 of 38 copies. 11 original black & white photographs of varying sizes by Murray Riss (class instructor) and his students: Wim Allen; Brin Armstrong; Lou Tippet; Herschel Wells; Charles R. Graves; Terry Clont; James Hornsby; Cecil Dorman; Jane Shelby; and Mike Hood. Each photograph is SIGNED & DATED by the photographer. 1pp stiff grey title page. Housed in black stiff paper portfolio & grey stiff paper case. Photographs & portfolio are in fine condition; fading & closed tears to slipcase. From 1969 to 1971, many citizens of Memphis objected strongly to the use of nudes, and an exhibition of nude photography at the Memphis Academy of Arts; extreme incidents included death threats, car bombs, and a kidnapping. One of the photographers included in this collection, Murrary Riss, who organized the "1971 Photography Invititational Exhibition" was forced to to end the exhibition early and discontinue the use of nude models at the art academy for a period of time.
