New York: The Review of Reviews Co, 1911. Hardcover. Volumes 5-10 (out of 10) set. 4to. Blue blind-embossed cloth with gilt spine lettering and rules. Various paginations. Top edges gilt. Frontispieces, extensive illustrations and maps, decorated endpapers. Very good. Mild edgewear and occasional stray blemish, else uniformly tight and internally fine; dozen boogered-up upper page corners in volume nine. Just a PARTIAL set (6 out of 10 volumes), all first editions, of this definitive photographic chronicle, but all are tight and attractive, with no flaws other than quite mild binding wear. Warren W. Hassler Jr. sums it up nicely: "A mammoth collection of Civil War pictures that has become the standard photographic compendium on most aspects of the conflict." Priced accordingly. NEVINS I, 38.
