First printing, trade issue (a limited edition was also published), inscribed, signed, and dated on fly leaf by Welty in month of publication. Square 8vo: xiv,111,[3]pp, Illustrated with 102 of Welty's photographs. Publisher's brown cloth, stamped on front cover in black and in bronze on spine, mid-brown end papers; photographically illustrated dust jacket, priced $7.95. Spine slightly canted, light shelf wear, else Near Fine or better in Fine jacket. Polk A18:1b. In 1931, after graduating college, Welty returned to Jackson, where a few years later she joined the WPA, part of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal. Traveling through Mississippi opened her eyes to the misery of the Great Depression, and resulted in this series of photographs, eventually published as One Time, One Place. N. B.
