Cleveland, OH. 1943. Hardcover. Very Good. Large black pebbled cloth 3-ring binder stamped 'Property of William S. Jack' detailing the company's owners, managers, laborers, dinners, huge rallies, and entertainment during 1942-43 when their war-financed production of precision plane parts was at an all-time high. 91 8x10 original photos, some with typed captions, detailing life at the plants. Jack and Heintz founded JAHCO in 1940 in the Maple Heights suburb of Cleveland, manufacturing airplane starters, autopilot devices, etc. By 1944 their workforce had increased from 56 to 8,700. Jack was well known for coddling his employees, piping in music, treating them to lavish vacations and health benefits including in-house masseuses, free meals, wristwatches, complementary donuts, profit sharing options, etc. Time Magazine focused on the company repeatedly as an example of wartime profiteering, and after the war the company nearly went bankrupt as defense contracts dried up. Bill Jack was also known for his egalitarian treatment of men and women and announced that any man caught badmouthing or otherwise impugning women would be fired. This album details the halcyon days of JAHCO when everyone was really raking it in. Photos are attached with mounting corners, not glued on.
