About This Item
London: Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons 1898. (Hardcover) 842pp. Very good plus, no dust jacket. Burgundy leather with gilt lettering on the spine. All edges gilt, index, photographs and illustrations. The spine is lightly faded. "This year just closed will be an ever memorable one for phonographers, because it witnessed the passing away of the venerable and venerated figure which, during the whole of Her Majesty's long reign, was in the forefront of the shorthand movement in this country, and whose name has become synonymous with the art of stenography throughout the civilized world. Less than twelve months have gone by since the announcement of his death evoked from representatives of all classes of the community, at home and abroad, sympathetic expressions of regret at the passing away of one of the world's workers - expressions which we shall not easily forget" - from the Annual Address to our Readers. Text in Pitman Shorthand and English. (Linguistics, Phonology, Shorthand).
