From the dust jacket: "Charles Edward Pickett... came to California from Virginia in 1846… He took part in the provisional government of Oregon; he was at Sutter's Fort just after the Bear Flag Revolt, and in Yerba Buena when the American flag was first raised. He voyaged to the Sandwich Islands, whence he imported the first wool-bearing sheep into California. As a journalist in Oregon, he issued, in manuscript form, the first newspaper on the Pacific Coast, and later edited a printed newspaper, THE WESTERN AMERICAN in San Francisco.". First Edition.
