Lugduni Batavorum [Leyden, Leiden]: ex officina Elseviriana [Elzevir], 1624. Full vellum, 2 vols in folio [365mm]. Vol 1: *4, A-Ttt6, Vvv4 [*1= half-title recto, frontis verso; Vvv4 blank] + 9 double-page maps. Vol. 2: ¶2, A-Bbb6 [Bbb6 blank] + 5 double-page maps. Pagination: v.1 [20], 786; v. 2 [2], 787-1338, [22]--Index. Good. Maps are clean. Vellum binding darkened; spotting and occasional browning in vol. 1, with spotting and extensive browning in vol. 2. Dampstain to lower left corner first 4 leaves vol. 1 and rear cover vol. 2. Front hinges open on both volumes with cords holding, rear hinges cracked but less so. Crown of vol. 2 pulled. The books are otherwise structurally sound. Bookplates of T.J. Phillips-Jodrell, no other signs of ownership. Clüver may be considered the father of historical geography in modern times. He also published a historical geography of Germany. His Introductio in Universam Geographiam was a widely used textbook with many editions over the next century.
