Turn the pages and fly off into a world of pirates and fairies,of adventures and exploration,as Wendy and the Lost Boys do the unthinkable and return to Neverland, where Peter Pan is waiting for them . . .
First it was a play. Then it was a book.During the early years of the 20thC,it was a runaway success which made James Matthew Barrie the most successful author in Britain, and also went on to became a modern classic.
In 1929,Barrie made a remarkable gift to his favourite charity. He gave away all his rights in 'Peter Pan' to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. This meant royalties from any production of the play or copy of the book sold, the hospital would be the richer for it.Over the years,it proved to be a more valuable gift than he could have ever imagined.
In August 2004 the Special Trustees of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, who hold the copyright in Peter Pan,decided for the very first time,a sequel to the book. They held a competition and launched a worldwide search for a writer to create a sequel to J.M. Barrie's timeless masterpiece.Renowned and multi award-winning English author Geraldine McCaughrean won the honour to write this official sequel. This illustrated, with a new version of the text,is specially adapted by the author, and supplemented with magical and beautiful artwork from David Wyatt.
Geraldine McCaughrean,an accomplished children's author and reteller of traditional tales, recreates the thrill and drama of the stories as she unravels the plots and breathes life into her characters. She has won the Whitbread Children's Award 3 times, the first in 1987 for 'A Little Lower Than the Angels'. This was followed in 1988 by 'A Pack of Lies', which won the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian's Children's Fiction Award. Lastly,in 2004,she won again with 'NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.' She has retold a number of classics for children, including The Canterbury Tales,El Cid and The Arabian Nights.
David Wyatt has illustrated many books by authors including J.R.R. Tolkien,Terry Pratchett,Philip Pullman, and Dianna Wynne-Jones.
