About This Item

Charles Scribner's Sons, 1906. First Edition 1st Printing thus. Hardcover. Good. 0x0x0. 1st American Printing. 'Published December, 1906' stated on the copyright page. Drawings & Illustrations by Arthur Rackham. All 50 color tipped in plates mounted on heavy stock and each with a lettered & labeled tissue guard. Other than the frontis, the remaining 49 plates are bound following the text as issued (not within the text as might be expected). The plates comprise the entire second half of the book by thickness. Hardcover bound book. Decorative green cloth with gilded illustrations to the spine and cover. Good- (3 of 10) the spine case is torn and glued down, the front hinge is glued, the rear hinge is taped. The tissue guard for the frontis is a bit detached at the top & bottom, there is a bit of a hinge split at the frontis plate. There are some minor creases to the other tissues guards, and a few have a touch of foxing. The color plates are beautiful crisp and clean. There is rub-through to the corners light chips to the spine ends. [Barrie had asked Rackham to illustrate, not the play Peter Pan, but make a new book from the chapters of The Little White Bird (published in 1902) that first introduced the character of Peter Pan. The Pall Mall Gazette may have summed it up best as, "Mr. Rackham seems to have dropped out of some cloud in Mr. Barrie's fairyland, sent by a special providence to make pictures in tune with his whimsical genius."]. * * * * * * * * * * [FREE Media Mail Shipping!
