DJ has original price of $5.50. Slight age toning to DJ and very minor edgewear.

This is the first printing of the US edition of the author's first novel. This work encompasses a number of themes that were to preoccupy the author in many of his later works, most notably the individual's search search for a unique spiritual and physical identity amidst the back drops of nature and modern civilazation, and the role of art in the formatipn of personal identity.

A fine copy for the Hermann Hesse collector.

Synopsis

Peter Camenzind, published in 1904, was the first novel by Hermann Hesse and contains a number of themes that were to preoccupy many of Hesse's later works, most notably the individual's search for a unique spiritual and physical identity amidst the backdrops of nature and modern civilization and the role of art in the formation of personal identity. The style of Peter Camenzind is easy to follow, even as it is a Bildungsroman in an atypical sense.
