There is some foxing of the preliminary pages, and some annotation to the contents pages; overall, the book is in good to very good condition. The dustwarpper is in good condition (some tanning, some chafong of the edges). The dustwrapper has now been put in a mylar cover to protect it. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper.

London: Macmillan. 1935. Second impression (one month after the first). Inscribed by the author. Original red cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, lacking the dustwrapper. A good, sound copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Top edge coloured red, lower and fore-edges untrimmed. The cloth is rubbed to spine tips and edges, the spine severely faded, although the gilt lettering remains legible. Spotting to endpapers and half title. There are two inscriptions in pencil to the front free endpaper, the first addressed "To the most precious Pearl / with homage / from / the unworthy author" is followed, with an arrow pointing to the first inscription, by the following note in the hand of the author, "This is not a / genuine inscription", signed and dated "Osbert Sitwell / May 5 1944".
