About This Item
Canberra, Roebuck Society first edition - h/c in d.j. Palmer was infatuated with the sea, and although he grew up on a farm, we find him in 1916 serving as a cadet onboard a large sailing ship bound for Europe via Cape Horn. The voyage took 112 days. Stranded in England he joined the Royal Navy. On the outbreak of WWII his ship was bombed and he was later taken prisoner, where he spent two years as a guest of Hitler. He survived the war and went on to have many more adventures. 155 x 175mm., pp. 383, b/w plates, map end/ps., index. NEAR FINE/V+ ISBN: 0909434212
