About This Item

Hardcover edition, published by Houghton Mifflin, 1896. First published in 1866, this is a reprint edition. The story of a two orphaned children and the coastal community where they grow up. As noted on the front cover this volume is part of a series; 'The Writings of Harriet Beecher Stowe'. Dark green cloth covered cover boards, with the title and author name in gold on the spine and front cover. Nice vintage design on the front cover. No dust jacket. Mild edge wear throughout, corners are just slightly bumped inward. All lettering and design elements on the spine and front cover are intact and legible. Top to bottom vertical crack in the binding at the first flyleaf, so the binding is a bit loose at the front of the book, though all text pages are intact. Former owner's name at the top of the first flyleaf page. No further writing besides that though. Frontispiece illustration of the book's main character, Mara, is intact and retains its tissue protective sheet. Top edge gilt is intact. Untrimmed, deckle edges of the text signatures.Edges of the text block are relatively clean considering the age of the book. This copy is not a library discard copy. The attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.

Let us know, we'd love to hear from you! Do you want to see a photo of a book before you order it ? We try to post as many photos as possbiel, but sometimes there will be a item in inventory that does not show a photo here. So feel free to ask for photos, we don't mind at all. We package all of our orders carefully either in a box that has been designed to ship books, or in a padded envelope. We want to make sure you receive your order in the best possible condition! Our preferred shipping method is USPS Media Mail. Recently, the USPS has added tracking to Media Mail , which has been a great addition to this service. If you do choose to have your order shipped "Expedited", my shipping cost may seem higher than expected. Some of our books are large format hardcovers that can cost quite a bit when shipped expedited. So I would like to make sure that I can cover the cost upfront. However, if the actual cost of expedited shipping is less than the charge, I will refund the difference!
