An astonishing compilation of designs representing a study of patterns as individual specimens. Conceived as a successor to Hodgson and Cohen's other productions, including Decorating Paper (2015) and Folding Paper (2017), this edition parses pattern into its deep, intertwined orders of ratio, tessellation, motif, style, culture, and symmetry. The text explicates these foundational geometric concepts in layman's terms, but the glory of the book is in its added material, the papers, drafts, grids, and designs interleaved and overlaid throughout. Bound by Cohen in patterned paper boards over a vellum spine. Included in this edition are three fold-out textile grids by Franx Bonat from his Gross Bildungs-Lexicon, gathered in a chemise.
