The diary of Englishman Samuel Pepys was begun in 1660 and has been described as Britain's most celebrated diary. From the jacket cover: "Intelligently condensed into one volume and with an introduction by Richard Le Gallienne." --- In Toledano spine 8 / rust cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style i, verso lists titles in ML catalog, but total number is missing. Likely published c.1954 (no publication date appears in book). ML #103.1. --- A very nice copy: clean, tightly-bound and unmarked but with a hint of age-toning to leaves and gift inscription in pink pencil to verso of ffep. Price-clipped dust jacket with large open tear to front panel top edge, other smaller chips & tears to extremities, else intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); xiv, 332, (6, ads) pages .
