About This Item
New York: Benziger Brothers, 1889. Hardcover. Small 4to. Emerald green cloth with ornate gilt and black lettering and pictorial stamping. 698pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, illustrations, 2 heavy stock tissue-guarded full-page plates, marbled endpapers. Very good. Slightly edgeworn (mainly at spine head and tail), else tight and internally near fine; inoffensive archival mend to frontispiece tissue guard. A quite nice copy of the "Authorized Version" of this hefty account of Irish nationalist politician Charles Stewart Parnell (1846-91), the Irish National Land League he founded in 1879 and the controversial Home Rule Movement. Subtitle reads: "With an Addition Containing a Full Account of the Great Trial Instigated by the London 'Times,' and Giving a Complete History of the Home Rule Struggle from Its Inception to the Suicide of Pigott." Sharp copy of an uncommon title.
