About This Item

London: The Queensway Press, 1928. Ervine (1883-1971) was born in Belfast and became a prominent dramatist whose work was praised by Yeats. Under the influence of Bernard Shaw he joined the Fabians. He managed the Abbey Theatre, but only for a year. Adopting more Unionist attitudes, he fought in the World War for England, losing a leg.The First Edition of this biography of the tragic Irish leader was published in 1925, This is a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of areprinted edition. There is no publication date bu an Author's Note here indicates it to be post-1927. Therefore, Quercus rather arbitrarily assigns it a publication date of 1928. Green cloth binding with titling in gilt on the spine. Clean text; 318 pages. Indexed. Some spotting to the endpapers and the top edge; the spine is lightly faded but the lettering remains bright and clear; corners remain sharp. The rather dramatic dustwrapper is Very Good; unclipped, with the spine darkened. In an archival plastic protector. [Note: due to a computer crash, this book may also appear with the inventory number 001203]. Reprint Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
