Random House, 2002. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Near fine. First American edition. Winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize. Jacket edges are crisp aside from minor wear at tail of spine. Back cover is slightly scuffed. Pages have a few lightly penciled margin notes by previous owner. Boards are firm and even, with sharp corners. Binding is tight and square. Hinges are secure.

An excellent book, vast amount of material covered. The author manages to keep an avalanche of information under control and constructs a coherent picture of what was accomplished. What was not accomplished is probably as important as what was, and this is addressed as well.
