About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead, 1937. First American Edition. First Printing. Octavo (20cm); blue cloth covered boards titled in dark blue on the cover and spine; red badge detective endpapers; 231pp.; sunning mostly to spine and edges of front board; minor bump to fore edge of front board; Very Good or better, lacking the dustjacket.

G. K. Chesterton's final collection of detective stories, published after his death. Of the eight mysteries, seven were first printed in the Storyteller magazine. "The Unmentionable Man" was unique to the book. "Mr. Pond was quite an ordinary man to look at and his manner was as unobtrusive as one could imagine. That is why perhaps he had so many extraordinary adventures and why he had been so valuable a member of the Secret Service" (from the publisher); HUBIN, p. 79.
