About This Item
London: Bell and Daldy , 1857. Cloth. Good. 5" by 3.5". Not Stated . Early edition of this pocket sized collection of morally didactic tales for children by Margaret Gatty. Fifth edition of this work. A charming Victorian children's book by Margaret Gatty, the first series in the original publisher's full cloth binding. In this volume, the author utilises a mixture of enjoyable children's tales and her own scientific curiosity to argue against Charles Darwin's Origin of Species. In the usual Victorian fashion, Gatty uses God and nature to influence children with moral tales for a religious upbringing. Illustrated with duo-tone plates. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities. Front hinges failed, binding held by cords only. Pages bright and clean. Minor staining mark to outer gutter frontispiece not affecting illustration. Good
