Inscribed first printing of this colorful story of how the nocturnal animals of a South American rain forest come to appreciate the noisy trickster parrot Papagayo. Gerald McDermot's lively, vibrant illustrations are immediately recognizable. He got his start in the animation industry, before landing a Caldecott Honor with his first children's book ANANSI. Many of his books draw from folklore and mythology from a variety of cultures, and have earned him a Caldecott Medal, two Caldecott Honors, and many other accolades, as well as a place on the bookshelves of children all over the world. 9'' x 7.5''. Original orange cloth boards. Original unclipped ($8.95) color pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated in color. [18] leaves.
