About This Item

Cambridge, England: Patrick Stephens Limited, 1979. First Edition, Presumed First Printing. Trade paperback. Very good. 95, [3] pages, including covers. . Contains Campaign Map, Author's Introduction, About the Photographs, The Photographs, and Appendices. Bruce Quarrie (1947 in London - September 4, 2004) was an English writer on war-gaming and militaria topics. Quarrie studied English at Peterhouse College, Cambridge University and graduated in 1968. He became a journalist with the Financial Times and then in 1972 joined Patrick Stephens Limited, a Cambridge specialist publisher, as editor of Airfix Magazine, which PSL produced. He wrote the first of his books about war-gaming in 1974 and in 1986 he became a full-time writer. He wrote over 40 titles, mainly on the Second World War militaria. Quarrie was an active wargamer. His 1974 book Napoleonic Wargaming brought the activity to wide attention. Quarrie owned a large miniature army of wargames figures, including the entire Westphalian army of the Napoleonic era. The photographs in this book have been selected with care from the Bundesarchiv, Koblenz (the approximate German equivalent of the US National Archives or the British Public Records Office). Particular attention has been devoted to choosing photographs which will be fresh to the majority of readers.
