The first edition, first impression of this very scarce work.In the publisher's very scarce and wonderfully illustrated price unclipped dust wrapper.Eden Phillpotts's fantastical novel was reviewed by the Literary Digest with 'the satire is so gentle, the philosophy so devoid of bitterness, the whole story so charmingly poetical, that it is a joy to read it', and with a contemporary review from The Outlook reading 'it is a good deal more than classical; it is human through and through'.Phillpotts was a friend of Agatha Christie, who was an admirer of his work and a regular visitor to his home. She dedicated 'Peril at End House' to Phillpotts, and in her autobiography, she expressed gratitude for his early advice on fiction writing.
