Francis Turner Palgrave, a 19th century English scholar, poet and critic, won wide acclaim for his collection of poems, first published in 1861. This Modern Library edition includes an introduction by Louis Untermeyer, as well as the famed Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, in the Edmund Fitzgerald translation. Indices of poets and first lines at rear of volume. With E. McKnight Kauffer illustration of a lyre to front panel. --- In Toledano spine 11 / blue cloth / ML hex torchbearer device blindstamped to front cover / gilt-stamped spine titling & torchbearer / tan Kent endpapers / jacket style l, verso blank. Likely published c.1966 (though 1944 date appears in book). ML #232.1. --- A clean, tightly-bound, bright copy, though with small tears to gutter near title page which doesn't affect the stabilty of the binding, and a tiny triangular open tear at title page. Price-clipped dust jacket with small scuffed area at mid-spine, other small tears & scuffed spots and a red dot spine sticker, otherwise bright, intact and in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); xxi, 426 pages .
