A little fraying to head & tail of spine which is also a little creased. Some staining to boards. Gilt monogram decoration to front of ribbed green boards, gilt to spine and teg. Endpapers/prelims a little spotted. Owner's name in pencil to ffep. Frontispiece etching by H. Macbeth-Raeburn with tissue guard which is a little spotted. Vol IV of The Wessex Novels series. Some weakening at gutters but still soundly bound.
Synopsis
A Pair of Blue Eyes is a novel by Thomas Hardy, published in 1873. The book describes the love triangle among a young woman, Elfride Swancourt, and her two suitors from very different backgrounds. Stephen Smith is a socially inferior but ambitious young man who adores her and with whom she shares a country background. Henry Knight is the respectable, established, older man who represents London society.
