About This Item

New York: Sotheby's of New York, 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. Sturdy hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, tight binding, and clean internals except for an ink-stamp from previous owner (Charles Campbell Gallery), showing little shelf- and edge-wear, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere, though with helpful and interesting penned marks by the previous owner, presumably someone from the Charles Campbell Gallery. Stapled onto verso of first free endpaper is a Sale Form showing the lots that sold on November 4, 1981, November 5, 1981, being typescript and also taped to the page. Bound handsomely in burgundy colored cloth, with sharp and distinct gilt lettering to front cover and to spine. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, showing only very minor wear, protected by a plastic coat, dust jacket not being price-clipped. Catalog of one of the more important art historical collections of the 20th century, featuring works of Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, Massimo Campigli, Joseph Cornell, Alberto Giacometti, Arshile Gorky, Marcel Duchamp, Victor Brauner, Alexander Calder, and others. Includes 164 illustrations in duotone and in full color. Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
