About This Item

Portland: Binfords & Mort, Publishers and The Oregon Historical Society, 1950. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo. Pp. 173. Illustrated with black and white photo reproductions. An appendix lists ships that foundered at the mouth of the Columbia River and the cause their demise. Endpaper maps. Bound in full yellow cloth with black stamped lettering on front cover and spine. The color illustrated dust jacket is in better condition than we usually see, with just a slight suggestion of sunning to spine; price of $3.00 intact on the front flap. Inscribed by Gibbs on the half-title. Inscription reads, "With best regards to -- and -- [signed] James A. Gibbs, Jr. 1954". Contains great factual and anecdotal information on the desperate sailing mishaps, wrecks and accidents. Dust jacket is now housed in a clear, removable archival protector.
